Turin celebrates Saint John, its patron saint, with one of its most evocative traditions: the great bonfire in Piazza Castello (also known as the “farò di San Giovanni”). The blazing pyre becomes a symbol of purification and renewal, while the direction in which it collapses—toward Porta Nuova or Porta Susa—is received with age-old superstition. The event takes place every year on June 23rd, the evening before the feast of Saint John on June 24th.
